Just Found out About Kneeling Chairs

One of my coworkers got this unique new chair at work. It's called a kneeling chair.  I have to admit it looks crazy as heck, but once I gave it a try I knew exactly what they were talking about: the thing feels great on the back.

Janet, the coworker in question, got hers at kneelingchairhq.webs.com/.  It's called the Office Star knee chair and comes in a dark wood finished look.  It has memory foam, and I'm a sucker for memory foam.

I was trying to figure out why this thing was so comfortable so I did my research.  Apparently the slope of the seat helps to relieve tension in the back which is usually caused by tight hips.  If you stand up and start to tip your pelvis back and forward, pay attention to how this makes your back feel.  When my pelvis is pointed upwards (think Elvis hip thrust), then my lower back starts to curve and there is a slight pulling sensation.

The knee chair reverses this effect and in my opinion, feels great.  Check it out.

You can also start improving the strength and flexibility of your spine by doing some simple exercises at home. A good exercise/stretch for your back is to do knee lifts. Lie on your back and alternatively bring your knee as close to your chest as possible. Hold this position for about thirty seconds. Then, repeat the lift with your other leg. Alternate legs a few times for as long as you are comfortable. Waist twists can also be very advantageous for relieving back pain. Standing with your hands at your sides, swing your arms in one direction and then the other. Standing hip rolls are another gentle stretch that helps your back.
